Good morning. This is Laura. Welcome to the new corner office the podcast or your strategies for thriving in the new world of work or location and hours are more flexible than in the past.

00:01:07
Can I get to make Monday's matter?

00:01:12
Many people dread Mondays but handled right they can light a fire under your career.

00:01:18
I have studied how people spend their time. I've come to see that one of the reasons Monday's feel. So terrible is that from many people after a two-day reprieve Monday morning means a long and frustrating but he's attract people's Moment by moment happiness find that the morning commute is the most miserable moment of the day the evening to meet isn't fun. But at least you arrived home at the end of it a redeeming feature absent from the morning run. If you're working from home though this whole equation changes absent the commute you might not have to get up quite so early and you don't have to start your week with something that feels negative battling traffic or sitting next to someone snoring on the train.

00:02:03
Instead you have an opportunity to shake things up.

00:02:07
This is my suggestion. If you're working at home these days because of the pandemic use the time on Monday morning that you would have spent commuting to tackle some big speculative project that you claim. You never have time for.

00:02:23
Packing something big and uncertain and light a fire under your career and doing this important but not urgent tasks. First thing means you start the week with a sense of victory.

00:02:35
There are all kinds of speculative projects that might shake things up in a good way. Maybe you strengthen your network by making a double opt-in introduction every Monday morning.

00:02:47
Maybe write a thank you letter to someone who made a difference in your life. Maybe you call a potential new connection just to say hello. Maybe you film a video of yourself explaining something about your company for new hires. Maybe you write a post for an industry blog. Maybe you check in with your Mentor maybe spend an hour working on a book proposal or the business plan for that side hustle. You say you want to start you don't have to do any of these things. But without your Monday morning commute the time might be there and a way that it wasn't in the past.

00:03:21
And imagine how good your week will feel if instead of battling traffic you start Monday by introducing two old friends who you recall both follow Cricket or who both love the works of Virginia Woolf.

00:03:36
Think of how much you love your Mondays if you hit 9 a.m. With an article already submitted to an industry publication just the sort of thing to position you as a thought leader. We don't need to dread Mondays, especially if we're working from home. We can start them an incredibly positive way when we choose to make Monday's matter we can feel like we put in a good day's work. Even if it's not yet lunch time.

00:04:04
Did this week think about what high-impact project you can substitute for your Monday morning to me if you make this a habit week after we I promise you that you'll be unstoppable.

00:04:19
