Welcome to before breakfast a production of iHeartRadio.

Good morning. This is Laura. Welcome to the before breakfast podcast. Today's tip is to have a box of fun. I don't know about you, but I actually like those baskets of random treats that people sent around the holidays. I like finding a new candy or a new kind of cheese. Even if I don't actually wind up eating the items in question. One of my favorite baby gift I've ever received was a wagon filled with random toys and books and outfits. It's a collection of stuff to discover and it can be quite enjoyable know this is particularly true for smaller starts, whether you have kids of your own or not kids surely visit your home every now and then or at least will in the future when socializing returns to normal.

You can become a favorite destination by always having a box of fun on hand for young guests to cruise and enjoy and when they're happy everyone else will be happy and that can create a lot of good will now a box of fun doesn't have to be particularly fancy buy a plastic storage container and then fill it with some all-purpose toys and art supplies such as crayons and paper or coloring books a slinky Matchbox cars a word find book a deck of cards dolls stuffed animals Legos and so on you may already have some of these things in your house and that could go in your box of fun. If not $10 at the dollar store can go a long way.

If you're not sure what to include you could enlist an older child help to select items for the Box.

Now this box is nothing earth-shattering but branding it as a box of fun or with another name of your choosing makes it a thing and makes it feel special and intention you are not just handing a child a random toy and asking the child to entertain themselves. If curated an assortment of items with their Delight in mind, maybe you call it a treasure chest or a recreation station though. I personally like Fox the fun. Just give it a name to make it feel special when kids know you have this box of fun though. Ask for it by name when they get to your house opening the box of fun will be a happy ritual when they arrive and see what new items you've included. You can store the box of fun in a closet or mud room so that it's accessible as soon as it's requested.

Having a box of fun ensures that all your guests feel welcome unless you interact with your young friends parents. Will the kids stay happily entertained.

Now I know that most families with kids feel like the house is already overrun with toys, but it might be helpful for parents to create a box of fun too. If a client are your boss called unexpectedly and you need something to occupy the kids a box of fun can do the trick a new toy or two will occupy the child for at least a little bit meaning that maybe just maybe you can take your call in peace. What would you put in a box of fun? If you create one? I'd love to hear all about it because I am always looking for ideas. You can reach me at before breakfast podcast at
